I love music. It can set you into a mood like nothing else, and a really good artist can make you stop and reflect on everything you are and everything you wish you were. One of my favorite songs is called “100 Years” by . It’s a simple song, but it has some powerful lyrics that make me stop and think about what this life is really all about in the first place.

When you’ve only got 100 years to live
Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone…

James said it this way: “What is your life but a vapor that is here for a little while and then vanishes away?” Some of us have 100 years. Some of us only have 60 years. Some of us, like the 27 year old man I read about in the paper this morning, don’t even have that long. Life is a vapor. And it’s easy to let each day pass by uneventfully; without making any real changes in your life or without impacting the world around you in a positive way. We think, “I’ll take care of that tomorrow… I’ll talk to him tomorrow…it’ll work itself out in time…” And then, another blink of an eye, and life is gone. Just like that. Think about how quickly your life has passed by already. You can probably stop and fill your mind with all kinds of things that you should have done but never got around to; what are you doing to prevent that from happening again? “Another blink of an eye, 67 is gone. The sun is getting high… we’re moving on.”

Your life is but a moment. And every time you draw a breath you come one step closer to the end of the moment. Make the most of it. Savor it. Love with passion. Forgive recklessly. Be excellent in everything that you do. Stop every once in a while and breathe the air.

“Your life is but a vapor…”
But it’s your vapor.
What will you do with it?
